Our Mission

Who We Are
The Tulsa Area Bioscience Education and Research Consortium (TABERC) is a collaborative network of higher education institutions in the Tulsa, Oklahoma region dedicated to advancing bioscience education, training, and research. It brings together faculty, students, and resources from multiple colleges and universities to create opportunities for hands-on learning, internships, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. TABERC’s mission is to strengthen the region’s bioscience workforce by fostering partnerships and sharing expertise across institutions. Through programs such as undergraduate research internships and laboratory experiences, the consortium helps students gain practical skills while encouraging cooperation and the exchange of ideas within the scientific community.
What We Do
We Educate
TABERC provides summer workshops catered towards professional development for undergraduate students. The workshops are on a variety of topics and includes sessions on scientific ethics and building professional documents including resumes and curriculum vitae. We also organize paid summer internships that allow students to work in research labs and gain confidence in conducting scientific research. Our annual joint meeting invites guest speakers that provide students and faculty with insight in different scientific and education fields.
We Build Networks
Institutions within the consortium collaborate in research by pooling their expertise, resources, and infrastructure. We also join hands with the Heartland Physiologists Society and Tulsa Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience to organize a joint meeting each year. We organize poster competitions that allows students to share their research and provide an avenue for students to meet faculty and peers from different organizations.
We Promote Student Success
Students belonging to our member institutions are provided with paid internship opportunities and avenues to share their research. TABERC also hosts professional development seminars that are open to all students. Our student interns have won awards at different meetings and conferences and the local, state, and regional level.
